    Update 1/8/2018
2018 is the year of The Possibility Handbook. Just before the stroke of midnight on January 2, 2018, the first edit of The Possibility Handbook was completed. I’m now working on a draft to send to some volunteer proofreaders before working on the final revision.

Though I continue to trust the process, and timelines are likely to shift, my current goal is to have the next draft, a less rough one, to those folks by the end of March of this year. From there, once all that feedback is back and rewritten, to send a copy of the manuscript to Ethan, Sarah, and the rest of the PA by the middle of the year. Once that is back, I’ll get the final draft written and into the hands of a professional editor.

    Update: 3/2/2017

After nearly 18 months of fundraising, travel, interviews, sorting, editing, reviewing, and writing, at 1638 EST on Thursday, March 2, I wrote the last line of the first (very) rough draft for the book. Now begins the rewriting required to craft a book worth reading, including all the notes, appendices, and other information in all the right places.

At the moment, the chapters are:
    Chapter 1 – Introduction
Chapter 2 – The Possibility Alliance
    Chapter 3 – Conflict Transformation
    Chapter 4 – Integral Nonviolence
Chapter 5 – The Archetypes of Social Transformation
Chapter 6 – The Great Mystery Economy
Chapter 7 – The Primal Matrix and Appropriate Technology
    Chapter 8 – Practices
Chapter 9 – Visioning and Manifesting

That leaves the following steps before final copies reach everyone.

    1. Rewrite the draft.
    2. Release of the draft to you, the supporters, and send a copy to Ethan and the folks at the PA to review and add comments.
    3. Receive that feedback and rewrite the draft.
    4. Send the rewrite to my selected readers.
    5. Receive feedback and integrate comments and changes.
    6. Send third revision to an editor.
    7. Create the final copy, including layout.
    8. Release e-book for final review by readers / supporters.
    9. Send the final manuscript to the printers.

I don’t know how long this will take, with the back and forth required from The Possibility Alliance and various readers. I am, as Ethan would say, trusting in the process. Step 1 begins, however, as soon as I send this email.

Thank you for being part of this and all the other projects from myself and the team at The Permaculture Podcast.

    Peace,

    -Scott

    Earlier Information on this Project

In early 2015 my friend Ethan Hughes asked me to bring forth something that had been asked of him in the past, a way for people to become Agent of Possiblity, one of the outcomes for many who visit The Possibility Alliance, the community homestead in La Plata, Missouri, that he shared with his wife, their children, and other community members. Fifteen years in the making now is the time to share his knowledge and experience with the broader world.

To that end, in January 2015 I traveled to The Possibility Alliance to meet Ethan in person for the first time and share time in his community to understand what it means to create the world we want to live in by someone who is manifesting that everyday. While there we recorded over 16 hours of interviews, and I used photography to copy more than 1000 pages of documents.

From that, we know that the book will contain the following topics:

    1. 10 Archetypes that transform the world, including the PeaceBuilders, the PeaceKeepers, the PeaceMakers, the PeaceCreators, the PeaceBreathers, and the PeaceMessagers.
    2. Conflict transformation
    3. Gift economies and other economics
    4. The primal matrix and the highest human needs: integrity, ability, and belonging.
    5. Embodied permaculture
    6. Anti-oppression work
    7. Gratitude, celebration and silliness
    8. Appropriate technology
    9. Service, and the process of radicalizing conservative systems
    10. Integral non-violence
    11. Manifesting our passion
    12. How do we become giving and fearless?

This project, to me, results in a living document that will grow and get updated regularly to include the projects and experiments that develop as a result of this work, and the lessons learned along the way. To provide space for that in between editions of the print book those updates include a website as well as follow-up interviews and podcasts, since those are the worlds I inhabit during this period of transition. With the book and these updates I’d like to provide more information about the sister locations Ethan mentioned, such as the New Community Project in Virginia or Be The Change in Nevada, either directly in The Possiblity Handbook or as a companion volume once this first book is complete.

For those who are interested in Ethan’s work and the resulting book, I’m running an ongoing crowdfunding campaign. Anything raised that is not used on this project will be donated to The Possibility Alliance as a gift from the community and myself to Ethan and his.

    The reward levels are:

Pledge $10 or more to receive an early copy of the finished ebook, which includes an advance uncorrected copy before the manuscript goes to press; inclusion of your name on the thank you pages of both the electronic copies and print editions of the book; and access to exclusive pictures and video.

Pledge $50 or more to receive a signed copy of the final print edition, early access to ebook copies of draft and final chapters as they are completed, transcripts of the audio files recorded to create the book, and everything at the lower levels.

Pledge $100 or more to receive a signed copy of the final printed book; access to all the interview files, photos and videos; and everything at the earlier levels.

As this is a listener exclusive campaign, early access to the ebook, draft chapters, transcripts, audio, and video are only available to those who support this campaign.

The current expectation is to have the early access materials, including audio and video, to begin reaching you by the Fall of 2016, with ongoing releases of material through 2017. The expected release date of the print book is late 2017.

Thanks as always Scott. We listened to the combined interview (finished yesterday) and found it to be very interesting – will listen to it again soon, no doubt. Very soon after listening, I did think that a book would be a great gift to the world, so it’s nice to hear it eventuating! Best regards, Dylan

This is a message from Cottage Grove, OR. I have very important documents from the past related to Ethan Hughes aka The Blazing Echinda. I would very much like to know what Ethan’s wishes are for some of the superheroes adventure documentation and some personal art books.

Please advise as to the best way to communicate with Ethan and best wishes.
