  1. Hi Scott,
First I’d like to thank you for your podcasts. They’re great! You’re doing excellent work- please keep it up!
Secondly, I saw on your website that you had done some research into greywater systems in PA. You are probably familiar with Kimberton Camp Hill Village, who has a pretty decent constructed wetlands/greywater system. I’m wondering if perhaps they might be able to give you some info concerning the legalities of such a thing in PA. I don’t really see them as the type to skirt the law, as they have multiple businesses at their location, and have to deal with state inspections and what-not concerning their residents. Also, I’m not sure where in PA you’re located, but I can detect a regional Philly accent anywhere. ;)
    Thanks and good luck!

    ~Joy

    • Thank you for sending me this information Joy.

I spoke with the director of Camphill Village Kimberton Hills to find out more about their system. She directed me to a pair of DEP employees, David Wolfinger and Keith Dudley. From speaking with David and Keith, the system at Camphill Kimberton was developed as an experiment, not through traditional permitting means and they reinforced that DEP does not issue permits for these systems any more. From the tone of the conversation, this inflexible arises because Pennsylvania is such a water rich state. However, there is some hope that in the future a differentiation will occur between gray water and black water allowing for these systems to be investigated again in the future.

As for my accent, it’s changed a bit over the years. I used to have a bit of a southern drawl as I grew up in western Maryland and spent time in, and with a large family, from all over the south.

      Peace,

      Scott

  2. Hi Laura -

You said: “For reasons that have yet to be fully revealed to me, Information Technology, Programming, and Computer Science are only one step removed from witchcraft and sorcery.” Interesting perspective but not readily understood here. My work in permaculture does connect the sacred, new alchemies and myth. I have looked into a game for Premies and have some ideas to share with you.

Here is a good place to start on my vision: Journey to Cascadia: Building a New Global Mythology. For 2012 Study of Myth Symposium Work Shop (http://wp.me/s14SHM-2584).

  4. Thanks so much for putting out this podcast. I was glad to hear you’re near Lancaster County. I’m on the eastern side of the county, and was wondering if you knew of any permaculture farms in the area.
